Visuall Merchandising at WAB store Walibi

Hi Folks,

Since I had the unique opportunity of redecorating two theme/attraction parks Walibi & Bellewaerde with a bunch of lovely colleagues, I took some time to visit the WAB store in Walibi.

Even as an adult (in age) of 34, I still was surprised about the impact of the Visual Merchandising in the store. In my opinion the did a great job.

Some points of interest from merchandising point of view

  • Lovely decorated,
  • playing with volumes,
  • presenting in a three dimensional way
  • playing with light and music
  • activation the brand Walibi in wall presentation

Look at the pictures and get seduced! By all means Merchandising remains your silent selling partner...

Inspiration is everywhere around. Keep the eyes open & be eager to look around wherever you are.

Hi,

We often think that frequently checking on our competitors is the best thing to get inspired within or own business.

Well to be honest it will be valuable for some things but I'm convinced that exploring totally different businesses can be even more inspiring.

Last week while shopping (what else) I visited "Handyman".
Just did this because everybody will believe I'm a real "Handy Man" :o) #notso

While wandering the store I stopped by underneath storage solution.

Being active in sanitary-ware, hvac and plumbing fixtures and fittings this inspired me to re-think the way of how we have problems in storing and displaying spare & repair parts.
It's a mix of small items that are space consuming with low rotation. So everybody loves to see this section well organized without taking to many space in the shop.

This display has it (nearly) all

  • Neat & tidy

  • Optimisation on m²

  • Different box sizes

  • Fits in standard shop fixtures

  • Might be upgraded by using the front of the boxes in a visual way

So yes even when you're shopping for ink cartridges or vacuum cleaning bags, solutions for your day to day professional business are just around the corner.

Re-arrange shelf presentation on bathroom mixers

Working in the HQ's is nice, getting out into the field for some hands-on merchandising is even nicer :o)

One of our stores asked us to re-arrange the shelves of the private label bathroom mixers Van Marcke.

It had a bit of a messy view at first glance and we needed to bring in some logic structure & eye catching visibility

So bring together the commercial and the visual aspect on a limited number of shelves.

The challenge we need to face every day and thus the challenge we love!

Some simple steps helped us to get started

0. Define the product presentation matrix

Ranges are placed one next to another, within the ranges the applications one next to another top to bottom

Horizontally & vertically you create a subconscious logic presentation

1. Try to create a visual horizon on top of the shelve to bring peace in the eyes & mind of shoppers

2. Make sure high rotation products or on top of the shelf (note: in this particular case top of the shelf in about 120cm)

3. Arrange and re-arrange each box to find out how you can optimize the usage of space without loosing sight on rule 1 & 2

Is this case we faced alternately frontal facing and stapled facing which created some kind of dynamic & eye-catching rhythm

4. Bring down to the bottom shelf’s all specialities (need to have but not core of assortment). Don't let those items ruin your presentation.

5. Don't forget before you leave the store;

  • Use the duster on boxes & shelves
  • Check if all product labels are re-arranged according to the new presentation

Do not hesitate to comment if

you hate this

you can advise improvment

you like it :o)

360° campaign on Private Label #Delhaize

Crisis?!

The opportunity to increase visibility on discount items. Delhaize is smart! They probably thought it was time to re-promote their 365 brand in order to prevent shoppers going to discount stores for savings...

The media circle is round!

Online media campaign, classic mailing, instore...

MY CHOICE, lighting by Eglo

MY CHOICE, lighting by Eglo

For me as a (non fashion) merchandiser it's always worthwhile browsing other suppliers in non fashion world to look how they try to deliver product, services or concepts to the end-user by facilitating their buying process & delivering some experience.

Today I discovered at the local HUBO DIY market in Hamme (Belgium) a lighting concept by Eglo.

Instead of bringing me a choice of hundreds of different lighting solutions (which costs the retailer quite some square meters) they delivered a concept where I choose the wall or ceiling unit and separately the finishing lampshade. Very simple, but very efficient.

You choose a “timeless” unit and combine it with a lampshade that suits your indoor style.

Of course this concept is well displayed in the store against the wall, and even the packaging has an indication of the principle. The unit packaging clearly points out you may not forget your lampshade

Moral of the story? When we are talking about merchandising within wholesale to retail business always keep two target groups in mind, first of all charm the retailer with things offers where he has a personal win that goes further than screaming about the turnover he will realize and think how you can bring added value to your end=user. Especially when you are operating in a market with dozens of suppliers, keep on looking for that unique thing that can differentiate you from the herd...

Point to reconsider; Be proud of this concept, bring it a bit louder in your communication. Something like “Design your own lamp” might attract more people... Also working with A & B on product display & packaging to emphasize the combination possibility.

Materia inspiration center Amsterdam #futureshopping2011

This location was the home base of future shopping 2011

It provides a broad overview of all possible building materialsIn a way that the senses are used 100%

For me as a merchandiser it was a inspiring experience as you can touch, feel, see smell all objects. Besides that, new technologies such as QR codes & 3D printing were also present.

The presentation of the materials was neat and tidy, with simple and clear communication. Worthwhile a visit!
